There is an established curriculum with subjects ranging from English, as the core, to History, Business, Geography, World Affairs, Reading and some other minor subjects. Text books are provided to both students and teachers. Students study English 6-7 hours a day. Each teacher teaches between 16 -17 hours per week.
Teaching assignments are determined in consultation with the teachers during an orientation week prior to the commencement of teaching.
ClassroomsAll classrooms are air conditioned in summer and heated in winter (rarely having to use this). We have set a limit of 30 students to a class but this usually ends up to be much less. The classes are modern with the usual classroom equipment one would expect. All classrooms are air-conditioned.
AccommodationsThe teacher’s accommodations are located in a hotel on campus, only steps from the classrooms. Couples are lodged in a large one bedroom hotel room while singles are in large bachelor rooms. The student residence is separate from the teachers’ accommodation. To respect the privacy of the teachers, students are only allowed in the teachers’ residence with special permission.
All rooms are air-conditioned and are quite comfortable. All rooms include telephone and service (at no cost to you), internet (small charge), refrigerator, desk, chairs, bed, air-conditioner, and a separate bathroom with bathtub and shower close to Canadian standards. Bedding is provided.
International airfareThe school provides 12,000 Yuan (RMB) toward the cost of your return airfare (About 6.7 Yuan = $1 CDN.) This is paid at the end of your contract period.
Medical BenefitsThe school will assist you and pay for any minor medical treatments. The teacher is expected to pay major medical expenses themselves or have the appropriate insurance coverage. The school does not pay for dental or pre-existing medical conditions requiring treatment.
SalaryIn addition to free accommodation, salaries are based on teacher's qualifications and teaching experience and can range up to 5,100 Yuan per month, paid in advance on the 5th of each month, is provided. (You will be advised of the specific amount once your application has been reviewed.)
It is important to remember that it is much cheaper to live in China than in Canada, and your expenses are very low. In addition to the free rent, food is very inexpensive: a very hearty lunch at the school cafeteria costs about 60 cents CDN and the many restaurants in the area are equally inexpensive.
Our teachers find that the monthly salary provides them with enough money to live very well and travel extensively.
